Inmarsat Supporting the Skill of Journalists As technology gets easier to use and more portable, journalists are getting closer and closer to the action. But if there is one thing that the Rory Peck Awards 2003 show, it is that technology is just a facilitator for the skill and bravery of the journalists and technicians themselves. Just as a microphone or camera has been a tool in the media's suitcase for many years, satellite phones and modems are now an everyday piece of equipment. But one can only marvel at the skill and dedication of award winners like James Brabazon, Fred Scott and Rodrigo Vazquez, as well as all the many other journalists feeding the world's inexhaustible desire for news from around the world. For over a dozen years, Inmarsat and its partners have worked hard to develop applications and solutions that make the media's life easier when on assignment. Whether that be a portable ISDN connection in the form of Global Area Network (GAN), a voice phone like mini-M, or the latest in communications technology, the Regional BGAN IP modem, journalists and technicians know they have the technology to support their drive for the story. But also importantly, knowing that Inmarsat gives them reliable communications from virtually anywhere in the world provides journalists, their family and colleagues with a strong sense of security.
