European Drive for the Trust

In June this year, the Rory Peck Trust and Sony co-hosted the launch of the 2002 Rory Peck Awards - an evening that also marked a drive to widen awareness of and support for the charity across Europe. The launch was kindly hosted by the German Embassy in London.
There is a real desire within Sony to raise awareness of the Rory Peck Trust, and the company's pan European presence provides an ideal network from which to reach broadcasters previously unaware of the charity.

Juergen Kuepper, head of Sony Germany, was impressed by the launch. "It's clear from having met freelancers and broadcasters who are involved in the work of the charity just how important the organisation's role in the broadcast community is. The Rory Peck Trust is certainly something that we will highlight to our customers, the majority of whom rely on the freelance community to supply a great deal of their footage."

As a new initiative for 2002, a panel of broadcast industry representatives from France, Spain, Germany, Italy and the UK, will judge the Sony International Impact Award at the Sony offices in Paris on September 9th. The panel will be chaired by Tony Naets, Head of News, The European Broadcasting Union.
